Email Issues

It has come to my attention that some incoming emails are going missing. I have no idea why this is happening, but I can assure you, it is frustrating! PLEASE, if you use my contact page or email me and do not have a reply within 24 hours, please re-email me! I am normally good about getting back to people - but I can't respond to an email I don't see!

Thanks :)

Miss Me?

I cannot believe its already MARCH. Many of you know, I’m in my final year at Northeastern University, well actually, my final semester! My life is beyond crazy right now with graduation looming in less than 50 days – I’m excited, scared, happy, and in disbelief; all at the same time.

Another thing keeping me busy… photographers, if you haven’t checked out Designs by Taz, you are missing out! I’m blogging over there, as well as selling simple card designs I offer my portrait clients. Not to mention, designing custom logos and branding material for photography studios across the country (well, globe!).

What’s new in 2008 for Bring to Light? I’ve just started offering some deliciously whimsical handmade frames! Available in a full line of fun colors, with coordinating trims plus stripe, dot, and swirled options. These are some seriously unique frames, perfect for the nursery, kids rooms, and for seniors too. Check out some samples below to see what I mean. I’m excited to offer these, and I can’t wait to hear what everyone’s favorites are!

Coming up for air...

Whew, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel as my crazy holiday season is showing signs of slowing.

If you have emailed me this week and haven't heard back yet, PLEASE, email me again. I just discovered I have been bouncing emails and I would hate to miss your message!

I'm happy to say, 98% of my orders have been sent off - Now, I just have to find the time to order MY holiday cards!

Thanks for a terrific season everyone, I hope to see some familiar faces in 2008 :)

...and because I hate to blog and run without a photo- here is one of Boston's John Hancock Tower (and the reflection in the building is the old Hancock Tower). I took this from a moving trolley bus!

Can't you feel the chill?

Brrr, it feels closer and closer to Winter and snow :( Had to share this image I shot the other morning. I woke up early in Vermont and everything was covered in frost. I was on my way to Kristen's party and I saw this and had to turn the car around to go back for a photo. Its funny, because this is a road I use all the time, but the morning light makes everything a little more beautiful. I love the stillness of the water and the reflection, simply Vermont.

Kristen & Friends | Portrait Party

Well, I have been up to so much lately! One of those things is not blogging- and I have many things I want to come back to tell you about. Guess its one of the downsides to this very busy season!

Last weekend I shot my last holiday sessions at a portrait party for Kristen and her friends. I saw some familiar faces there and met some new families as well. And, I have to give props to Stuart, who got some great giggles out of all the kids by singing, doing character impressions, and just being all around silly! I know you guys are anxious to see these, so without further ado!

Sneak Peak for Partygoers

For all of you that attended Wendee's party last weekend, thank you for a great day! It was great working with a mix of ages, it kept me on my toes :) I look forward to showing off your galleries this weekend, but until then, enjoy this little glimpse into the day!

And Baby Makes Three

Ahh, the last of the bunch from last weekend. I have to say, I love the variety of captures from this newborn session. Eileen had a list, but went in knowing we work around the little ones schedule :) My favorites from the session were when we went upstairs and I worked from window light to capture special "mommy moments" like nursing and snuggling Skye. Brian was a bit shy about photos, but I managed to get a few of him as well. I especially love the contrast of his hands, rough from his line of work, holding a tiny soft new baby. And isn't the punch of colorful stripes fun?

The M Family

I've worked with Andrea & Mike and their daughter Sidney at least 4 times now and at our latest session I was introduced to Sidney's new sister Ally, now 8 weeks old. It is amazing to see Sidney now as a happy 3 year old, and I look forward to seeing Ally as she grows.

Kiah | Senior

Sorry I didn't post these last night, I konked out early, I'm sick :( Guess my busy weekend caught up to me!

It is always so refreshing shooting seniors, they look when I ask them to and can follow directions- ha!. We started Kiah's session around her house and went to a nearby park for the majority of the session. My favorite part of the afternoon was visiting the barn to see Kiah's horse, where Kiah felt right at home. I'm excited for you to see ALL your images, but until then, here are a few of my favorites.

Good luck with your senior year Kiah!

Are these not perfect for Gallery Wraps?

Two more from the S family session, I think the one of Julia reaching for an apple might be my next studio sample canvas!

Stay tuned for images from Kiah's senior session this evening!

A Perfect Vermont Morning

Whew, this past weekend I was BUSY up in Vermont. 4 on-location sessions in 2 days! I'm going to blog about a session per day this week as all my clients anxiously await their galleries being published.

Saturday morning started with the S family, outdoors around their house and through the woods which was lush and green with bits of color peaking through. It was one of those mornings that you know fall has arrived, cool, crisp with beautiful filtered light.

We all took a walk through the woods and then just let Julia and Kellen play in the leaves and pick crab apples. I just took at quick peak at their session and had a hard time picking "favorites", we got some amazing images! Here are a few that topped the list.

Brian & Liz, Wedding

A couple weekends ago I had the pleasure of shooting Brian & Liz's wedding down the cape with Sarah Freel and Jacqueline Nauyokas. Now many of you are saying, "Wait, I thought you didn't shoot weddings Taz". Well I gave it a whirl, and while I don't see myself doing this all the time, I definitely like to try my hand at another wedding or two!

The bridesmaids, relaxing a bit in the green room

A colorful sprig for the groomsmen

Liz arrived at the ceremony with her bridal party on a trolley, which I thought was so cool!

I'm it!

Well, it appears I’ve been tagged, twice! Once from Boston area wedding photographer Michael Blanchard and once from Sam Barr, who found my blog through Becker’s blog and has some rockin’ nature photographs. What can I say, the internet connects people…

So I’m supposed to tell you 8 things about me that you many not know and then tag 8 more photogs to do the same…

1. I love anything sweet. It’s sad really, I go into the local convenience store and lovingly pick out my Laffy Taffy, nerd ropes and fun dip, candy that is meant for the 9 yrs and under crowd. I’ve called the Wonka hotline before…maybe I shouldn’t have admitted that, ooops!

2. I’m Canadian. Born in Montreal, Quebec and lived there for the first 7 years of my life.

3. I’m SCUBA certified. I took a PADI diving course back in high school so I could go on a Field Study in Belize. I got trained half in a pool and half in freezing cold Lake Champlain. So glad I did it though!

4. I love clean, simple lines and modern stuff. Can we say IKEA? Drool.

5. I HATE scary movies. Ok, even remotely scary movies. I went to see Superbad the other day (hilarious!) and there was a preview for a movie and I had to close my eyes, hum, and make Chris tell me when it was over!

6. I love office supplies, and organizing said office supplies in little containers and neat stacks (the only organized drawer in my desk). Needless to say, a trip to Staples for me is thrilling.

7. Netflix makes a killing off me. Takes me forever to return them!

8. I’m finishing up my senior year at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. May brings “the real world”, ready or not!

So, TAG, you're it!

Good thing the rain held out...

because I had a great time working with the Mount family! I scheduled a session last weekend back in Vermont and we met up at Oakledge Park, what a great spot… right on the lake, wonderful rocks to climb (and did I mention I had to climb too chasing after twin 4th grade boys??) and lovely green grasses. Although the sky looked ominous, the clouds created the most beautiful soft filter for the light- a perfect shooting afternoon for a beautiful family.

Sunday Morning in the Gardens

On Sunday, I met up with Tom & Mary and their daughter, Nina. We walked slowly up Comm Ave and into the Public Gardens, on a perfect day for portraits. Nina was so excited to see (and climb on!) Mrs. Mallard and her little ducklings. We also saw real ducks, geese and swans in the pond and watched the swanboats paddle by.

My favorite moment was when miss Nina was climbing the branches of a twisty tree and a squirrel hopped up right in front of her. Boston, the home of the fearless squirrel!

Boston, the place to be!

Well, I can't say this everyday- today I got to hang out with Jessica Claire and Becker while they were in Boston shooting an engagment session. A few of us met up at Boston BeerWorks over by Fenway Park for some great beers and burgers before Jessica and Becker went to the game. Jessica and I even had matching Shootsacs! (check out the Baroque cover in the photos, yum!)

Had the chance to meet some cool local photographers too, gotta love the internet connecting people. Of course, what would a group of photographers be without some photos?!

Becker, Jessica, Paula and me.

Becker showing us some off the cuff portraits of Mike. (Please note: I saved Becker from being mowed over by an angry Boston driver just minutes before)

Great Tunes

I've been spending a fair amount of time on the computer lately and have developed a somewhat scarey addiction to iTunes. I dread receiving those iTunes receipts in my email because then I'm forced to look at the damage my clicking frenzy has created! ;) Despite this, I have found some AMAZING songs and I thought I'd share my favorites with you!

Brandi Carlile - The Story
Oddly enough my brother told me about this one. "The Story" is what first got me liking Brandi Carlile, but since that song I've bought songs from both her albums and I love her voice! Its throaty and powerful, plus her lyrics are great. I'm loving "Turpentine" "Throw it all Away" and "What Can I Say" as well.

Alice Smith - For Lovers, Dreamers & Me
I heard "Dreams" during the credits on Entourage last week and Googled the only line I could remember and found it! De-lovely!

Colbie Caillat - Coco
"Bubbly" is her new single, but I'm in love with "The Little Things". I have the whole album and every song is great in its own way :)

Sara Bareilles- Little Voice
"Love Song" is my current favorite. Makes me wanna get up, dance, and sing along!

Back from Greece

Well, I've been back for about two weeks now and starting to settle into a routine. Figured it was about time I shared some of these photos. It seemed everywhere I turned in Greece was begging me to take a photo, so needless to say I have quite a collection now! When I went through to tag my "favorites" for you, I came up with WAY too many to post. So I've put my favorite 300 or so images in a web gallery for your enjoyment :)

Also, Vermonters, I will be back in Essex the last weekend in August and also in Mid-October for holiday sessions. Appointments are limited, be sure to contact me for scheduling as soon as possible!

A Night at the Ball Park

Whats better than a night a Fenway for a Red Sox v Yankees game?? Great seats! Chris and I and his brother and SIL had a table up on the right field roof deck and could see the whole park. The rain cleared off just in time to reveal a gorgeous blue sky and great weather for the game. Of course, I had to bring my camera- couldn't resist the sights of Fenway!

Fashionistas

I just stumbled across this photo tonight, created in Waterloo when fellow photographers Lizney, Alissa and Beth shucked off their heels and acessories to climb a firescape. I just love it! Its all in the details. Miss you girls!

Celebrate Yourself

A few weeks ago I photographed a boudoir session for my friend Krista, and up until now I hadn't posted any images as I had entered one in a contest. Now, I'm excited to share my favorties from the session. Isn't she beautiful?? If you'd like to schedule your own boudoir session, please contact me for a consultation so we can tailor your session to celebrate YOU.

Live from Waterloo!

I have spent an amazing 5 days in Waterloo, Iowa at the 2nd Annual Pro Photogs Convention taking great classes and meeting up with friends and photographers across the country, old and new. I learned a neat technique from amazing wedding photographer Mike Fulton using video lights too.

Here are a few of my favorites!

Beautiful Mommy Glow

I had the privilege of shooting a maternity session for a friend and fellow photographer, Paula Swift yesterday. We met up at Paula's studio in Framingham, MA and I had a blast trying different lighting techniques and poses with her. Paula, you are just beautiful :)

Waving my hands wildly

Anyone still out there?? I'm here. I can't believe I haven't posted for so long! Thanks to a few photographer friends that are making me get back on track :)

As many of you know, I'm back to classes now after my 6 months in Vermont taking on clients full time which I loved! So, you won't see too many sessions here as I am booking on a very limited availability- if you are interested in a session, please email me to get your name on the waiting list.

I'm going to leave you with a couple from my last session in Vermont. What a cutie, he had such blonde hair!

Living in Winter Wonderland

I think I'm one of the few people in this area that doesn't love snow, because I don't have a "winter activity". I can ski (but as a favor to others I don't), I don't snowboard, and I'm too big for my old sled (plus IBM hill is no longer). I like snow on the 24th and 25th, but after that I'm fine with it melting.

Well today the 'snowstorm' kept me from going to the gym -eh, erm- anyways I took that newly free time and wandered around outside a bit (donning a glorified ziploc bag over the camera). I will say, there is something about snowy photos that I really like. They almost make you feel cold with their blue tones. I guess photographing snow is my preferred winter activity ;)

Super Sampling

Well, all I have time to write is that I've been extra busy! ;) Here are a few of my latest images- I want to shoutout to all my fabulous clients lately- remember the final day for ordering images for Holiday delivery is Dec1st. Thank you for a great fall season!

Highlights from this weekend's HPP

Sharing a few of my favorites from Andrea's Home Portrait Party. Just a teaser until the full galleries will be up for party-goers this Thursday!

I had photographed most of these guests before and I just love watching how the children grow- teeth, hair, bigger smiles :)

Child Humor

During my session this afternoon, I take Em aside and ask her favorite color, things about her school. I decided I needed to make her laugh, but couldn't think of a good joke. She of course being 4, had an entire arsenal of jokes ready.

E: Knock Knock
Me: Who's there?
E: Armadillo
Me: Armadillo who?
E: Armadillo hair

Me: What? Armadillo hair? That doesn't make sense to me!
E: But you're laughing, so it worked.

Lol, smart girl! For the remainder of our session I think that knock knock was told about 15 more times- and each time was funnier and funnier.

Note to self- time to brush up on my knock knocks.

Anyways- to Laura and the whole gang- had fun today !

Girls just want to have fun

You know, I tried to think of another title but this just fit. Ali and Maxine were a breath of fresh air today. Our time together was filled with laughter- and surprisingly that wasn't directed at me trying to climb up the ladder into their tree house!

Oh Deer

So we're all sitting quietly today doing our own thing and our dog starts going nuts. Tail wagging (small little thing), ears perked, slight growl. I get up to investigate and I see deer in our backyard! And not just one, but a group of 4 or 5 eating our lilac bushes (much to my mum's dismay).

Of course, if I open the door to take photos the deer will scatter away. So I'm content just wacthing them. But five mintues later, they are still there! So I run downstairs, grab my camera with no time to changes lenses and shoot just a few through the (screened and glass) window. They must have sensed something because I only got in a few shots before they dissapeared back into the woods.

They are kinda hard to spot in the leaves and branches, but there they are- not too far from my kitchen window!

What a difference a year makes!

Last week I photographed A & B, just a few days before their 1st birthday. I also photographed their newborn session and while they have obviously grown a great deal you can still see that same look in their eyes. B's eyes are like two giant blue pools and A's are like dark mirrors.

Amy, George, A & B - it was great to see you all again!

Here they are, past and present.

On the Orchard

What would Columbus Day weekend be without some apple picking? I enjoyed this beautiful Sunday off (!) and headed over to Chapin Orchard. Its pretty late in the season so all the macs were gone, but the cortlands were yummy. And I was glad we had the apple picker- all the good red ones are up high. Mmm, now I can keep my fingers crossed someone makes me a pie!

LoVermont

I was reminded today just how much I love Vermont. Vermont is known for its Fall foliage and I set out today on a little trip with my family. We drove through Hinesburg, down to Warren and Waitesfield. We stopped in Huntington to see the falls and several times along the way for cool sites along the road.

I have always loved hay bales, but around this time of year most are already wrapped up in that white covering (and look like marshmallows). Well I lucked out and finally had the opportunity to find a few on a beautiful blue day with camera in hand.

Grey's Anyone?

I think I'm addicted to Thursday nights. And it seems like those 6 days in between each Thursday don't move quite fast enough for me. You see, its not that I'm willing time to go faster (because we all need more), I'm just in love with Grey's Anatomy! I truly can't wait for 9 tonight! And for some fun blog reading, have you checked out the writer's blog? Shonda is such a good blogger! http://www.greyswriters.com/

Hmm, what wouldn't I give to make portraits of Patrick Demsey?? ;)

Dining Out

I'm charging myself with blog neglect! Haven't been on my "updating game" lately (and I love reading other's blogs so I do know how disappointing it is when there isn't anything new). I could think up a bunch of excuses, but I'm sure you're not interested (well except for the part about the new clean & simple holiday templates I'm creating for clients and photographers alike!) I digress.

I'm sharing a photo of my mum and stepdad. Now, before you say, "That's it?" let me tell you, getting a photo of them is no easy task. My stepdad hates to be in pictures. And no he isn't just grumbley about it, but he actually tries to block any attempt of a photo being made. We are talking here dozens of Christmas photos with his hand in front of his face, or worse if I catch him offguard a look that could seriously make Medusa freeze. So the mere fact that I was able to 1. Be allowed to take a photo and 2. Take a photo of both of them together 3. Actually capture their happiness and in love-ness, is gianormus. In fact, its worthy of its own blog post.

This photo was taken out in Stowe at a 50's diner (the name escapes me). Decorated with Elvis memorabilia, black & white checks, and a real Shell gas pump, it was serious business in there. My favorite part of the trip, the peppermint stick ice cream in a parfait glass of course :)

New Updates

Well, the website is coming along, hopefully launching soon! I'm very excited about being able to split my galleries into multiple sections. Anyone know any great local artists just dying for their music to find a home online?? Ha- seriously though, I haven't found the right music yet so it still sits silent!

And another piece of exciting news, my work will be on exhibit at 1820 Coffee House in Essex! Stay tuned for dates, but I'm hoping to get my photographs up sooner than later.

A Fair Evening

And by that- I mean the Champlain Valley Fair.

It was SO refreshing to go to the fair. Besides indulging in corn dogs and fried dough, the colors and sounds at the fairgrounds are invigorating.

I love making portraits, capturing family moments, and spending time with my clients- but tonight my creativity was flowing because it was all about me! I wandered around the midway without a plan, looking for beautiful light- and it was the perfect night.

So soak up the whimsical colors and enjoy a bit of fair fun...

5 Year Old Twin Boys

Enough said? Haha. Sam and Jack certainly gave me a run for my money tonight! In fact, Scott suggested I add that to my resume.

We found dirt piles, frogs, and lots of bugs tonight but I think you'll agree all those silly faces and sprinting around the yard paid off.

Annie your boys are spunky and sweet- here's a sneak peek :)

A Laugh is a Smile that Bursts

Couldn't resist just one more senior image- see, its not all about attitude. I find some of my favorite photos from each session are those "in-between" moments. Those fleeting moments when you forget about the camera and let a bit of yourself shine through.

A Note from Abby & David

"Abby and I just got our pictures tonight and I wanted to let you know that we loved every single photo. You were able to capture our daughter's personality in every picture. Listen Up

You know, one can only talk about themselves so much- lol.

And while I'm plugging away in the car, on my computer, and out running I'm constantly listening to great music. I've got thousands of songs, a very electic mix- everything from Billy Joel to Jay-Z to Madonna and The Who. But how often is it that you discover a whole ALBUM that you love? So listen up, here are 5 albums that are worth checking out.

Keane- Under the Iron Sea
The Fray- How to Save a Life
Coldplay- X&Y
James Blunt- Back to Bedlam
Nelly Furtado- Loose

Ok couldn't resist, check out the sidebar for a mini slideshow! Check back for updates soon :)

So Busy!

Sorry all, I've been so busy lately I haven't had time to update! I've just moved back into Vermont and am currently booking sessions around Chittenden County. With the move of course comes LOTS of unpacking, organizing, and paperwork. Moving, my younger brother's graduation, and the holiday weekend just added to that!

I don't have much time but I'll leave you with one of my new favorites; K was amazed at a bee sitting on the flowers. I love making children's portraits just because of instances like this- things we overlook everyday children notice.

Thank you all for checking in with me- I promise a full update is on its way!

Undiscovered Territory

Well I am finally enjoying some of that nice weather summer promises- I've been out and about very busy!

Last week I was out taking a walk with a friend taking a "History of Boston" class. He wanted to find a bridge mentioned in class that was originally planned to be a grand entrance into the Fenway area and since has been covered by the Mass Pike, Storrow Drive, and lots of traffic.

Well we found it after a bit of climbing and much to my surprise there was another man there who looked as if he was taking pictures of the bridge with his cell phone. Living in a city, I've always been cautious of others (especially under an overpass) but much to my surprise he came right over to my friend and me and started talking about the amazing photo he had made earlier in this very spot. Turns out he was a photographer also.

And I have to agree with him, this is a pristine spot. This bridge is right before a bend on the Muddy River so the water lies as still as glass and you see an amazing relfection. With the bustle of the city traffic it is hard to imagine there is a quaint and quiet bridge just below.
We continued our walk around the Charles, up through Beacon Hill and back through the Boston Public Gardens.

The Newest Addition to my Family

...of equipment! Less than a week ago, I was blessed with a new arrival- a Canon 5D with a full-frame sensor, my new camera is beautiful! After a few impatient days of UPS tracking the 5D (and 24-70L lens!) is finally mine. Of course I had to go take it for a test drive, so I donned my gear and set out for the streets of Boston. I was amazed at the field of view and I kept looking up up up towards the tops of buildings. (of course the last three days I haven't been able to see them at all because of the rain!)

My little documentary walk was also important to me because I'll be packing up in two short weeks and moving back to Vermont for 6 months. I needed a few new city-life theme prints for my space in VT. Anyways, enough talk of my new baby, let me share the fruits of my labor :)

Miss Madeline

Sherry, and her husband John, and their beautiful daughter Madeline met me in the Boston Commons this morning for our session. One thing we all know about 2 year olds, they are bound and detirmined to keep you on your toes! Madeline is quite a climber and discovered.... the playground. Walking through the tree lined paths, we ended up over in the Boston Public Gardens to watch the ducks. If you didn't look up at the skyline, you'd never guess you were in the middle of a city.

Here is my favorite capture of the morning: Madeline, totally two.

Good Day Sunshine

The rain finally broke- well, at least for the afternoon. Never letting an opportunity pass me by, I coaxed Navya out for an afternoon out. I've been trying to make portraits of Navya for a year but she is always reluctant because she is "uncomfortable" in front of the camera. And while children can look beyond my lens and connect with me almost effortlessly, the extra hurdle is sometimes there for adults- and that's ok!

My philosophy is about authenticity and relaxation. Part of the experience working with a custom photographer is the relationship that forms during a session. I'll talk to you, make jokes, and direct you until you are so comfortable you forget my camera is even out.

Here are a few highlights from today's "victory"!

Rain Rain Go Away

Well, its hard to update this with new photos when I've had to reschedule two sessions this week because of the weather! Its been so foggy I can only see the bottom half of the Prudential building- the top is swallowed up by the clouds. Its going on raining 5 days here and the forecast isn't looking up. So I thought I'd share the story behind one of my favorites.

This photograph wasn't made during a session. It was a Sunday afternoon and I was headed to meet some friends for coffee- you know, regrouping after the weekend. I had been walking around my street shooting an assignment for the school newspaper so I had my camera with me. As I approached the meeting spot I saw that my friends were in the window but they hadn't seen me yet. I quickly composed the shot and they all looked up to see who the person standing outside the window was- me!

I only I had time for one frame and this was it. Notice in the windows you can see a reflection of the city behind me; busy as ever, even on a lazy Sunday afternoon. (I also have to add- I was quite suprised and honored to have my photo featured as photo of the day on Blu's Daily Blog)

Young Love

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing one of my favorite friends, Krista, and her boyfriend Craig. They were all dolled up to go to a formal that evening and of course I was right there ready to document! Though I don't shoot weddings (yet!) this is the way I'd want to shoot them- just making photos of everyone getting ready and being themselves!

After Craig got over the shock of my following him around (yes, I do think your shoes are interesting!) they relaxed and did their thing. Aren't they sweet?

Wide(r) World

I am currently in the process of going through photos I've taken in the last year and pulling my favorites to create a sort of "super album". In addition to photographing client portraits, I love to tote my camera along wherever I go (my friends can all atest to this!).

...so here is a glance behind my lens as I enjoyed a week full of March sun in beautiful Antigua.

I'm going to go dream about the sun (on this rainy evening!)

Until next time....

Big Blue Eyes

Based on an email I received from Abby this morning, I'm sharing from Anna's 9 month old session. The walls in Abby's home are all beautiful shades of blue and purple. Anna's periwinkle room was the perfect spot to hold our session.

Abby and David, your ethusiasm during the session was great; Anna has two wonderful cheerleaders. With a smile like this, who could resist my job?

I couldn't resist that cat in the window shot- I couldn't have set that up better if I tried! (but don't worry, there are lots of other non-cat ones!)

New Life

I had the opportunity to photograph Madelyn Saturday at a precious 11 days old. She is such a tiny wonder! Madelyn seemed to settle down as soon as her daddy would hold her. I love this image as it shows the absolute wonder in the eyes of a parent.

If you're planning a newborn session of your own, remember to contact me while you are still pregnant so we can start planning. The best time for a newborn session is within the first 2 weeks of life.
